Customer Responsibility
SpoCom.Com has chosen a unique and very versitile Server-Side filtering system that gives us the ability to filter internet access in many ways. That translates to the customer as several benefits that they would not have with other filtered services. Here's how it works:
Each SpoCom.Com customer has a login name and password which is attached to a filter or combination of filters which they can choose from. Every new SpoCom.Com customer has the primary filter automatically installed on their primary login name and password and may then modify it somewhat to suit their needs. The filters are as follows:
Primary filter: Our primary filter is a
deny
filter which denies:
access to World-Wide Web
sites that contain pornography,
IRC or Internet Relay
Chat which contains chat channels where pornography is readily available, as well as
preditory individuals who seek out the young, naive and susceptable,
FTP or File Transfer
Protocol which can contain sites where pornography is easily accessible,
General chat access
programs such as Internet Phone, FreeTell, MS Netmeeting, CoolTalk, and ICQ where
pornographic material is readily available and preditory individuals prey on the naive and
susceptable -- much like IRC (Internet Relay Chat),

Modified Primary Filter: the primary filter
may be modified at the customer's discretion as follows (only an adult primary customer
may request removal of any of the filters -- no one under the age of 18 can request
removal of any filter):
removing the filter to
World-Wide Web sites that contain pornography is not an option,
adult primary account
customers may request the removal of the IRC filter,
adult primary account
customers may request the removal of the FTP filter,
adult primary account
customers may request removal of specific "chat" programs filters such as
ICQ,
MS Netmeeting, CoolTalk, FreeTell and Internet Phone,

Child & Young Adult Filter:
(typically used with a personal secondary login for a child) SpoCom.Com's C&YA filter
allows access only to the sites contained on the Yahooligans
list (a list of sites geared toward ages 7 to 12). E-mail is not
available unless requested by the adult primary account customer.

Further Modified Filters: Each user login
name and password is assigned a deny or allow list,
which gives the customer great versitility in allowing specific access to every member of
the family, or business.
Example 1:
John User and his wife Mary are the primary account holders at SpoCom.Com with the primary
filter on their account, minus the ICQ filter because they use ICQ to maintain contact
with their relatives in California; Their 12 year-old son Michael has his own login name
and password which allows access only to the Yahooligans site list and he does not have an
e-mail account. Their 15 year-old daughter has her own login name and password which
has the complete primary filter on it. She cannot access any chat areas, or FTP, but
she does have her own e-mail account.
Example 2:
Albert User owns a small business that specializes in surge protection equipment which he
sell world-wide. Albert retains full access to the internet (with the primary filter
installed), but does not wish his sales people to browse the Web other than to check
certain sites that directly pertain to the business. He supplied SpoCom.Com with
that list of sites which he wants available to his sales staff. Each salesperson
logs into SpoCom.Com with a generic sales login and password which allows them to access
only those sites on Albert's supplied list, and the sales e-mail account.
